DigiByte Wallet — risk disclaimer and terms of use

Effective 2026-08-27. This is experimental, open-source beta software, provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. You hold your own keys. Nobody — not DigiScope, not the DigiByte network — can recover them, reverse a transaction, or restore funds sent to the wrong place. By downloading or using the wallet you accept all of the risk that comes with it, including total loss of funds.

Experimental beta software. The DigiByte Wallet is in open beta and under active development. It may contain defects, may behave unexpectedly, and may lose locally stored data such as transaction labels or sync state. Releases ship frequently, and a release can introduce a regression that a previous one did not have. Features that touch the DigiByte protocol — compact-filter sync, DigiDollar, DigiAssets, Digi-ID, Taproot spending — are implementations of an open protocol that is itself still evolving. Protocol behavior can change through consensus upgrades that no wallet author controls.

No warranty. The wallet is free and open-source software released under the MIT license. That license, not this page, governs the software, and it disclaims all warranties: THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. Nothing on this site, in the app, or in any release note creates a warranty, guarantee, or service-level commitment of any kind.

You hold the keys — and the consequences. The wallet is fully non-custodial. Your private keys and recovery phrase are generated on your device and stay there. DigiScope never receives them, never holds your funds, and has no ability to access your wallet. That is the point, and it is also the risk. If you lose your recovery phrase, your funds are gone permanently — there is no password reset, no support ticket, and no account recovery, because there is no account. If someone else obtains your recovery phrase, they can take everything, and nothing can stop them. Transactions on the DigiByte blockchain are irreversible. A payment sent to the wrong address, sent in the wrong amount, or sent to an address type the recipient cannot spend from cannot be recalled by anyone. Back up your recovery phrase offline, verify every address before sending, and test with a small amount first.

You assume all risk. By downloading, installing, or using the wallet, you accept full responsibility for the outcome, including the total and permanent loss of funds, whether caused by software defects, protocol changes, network conditions, device failure, loss or theft of your recovery phrase, your own mistakes, or the actions of third parties. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, DigiScope, its operator, and the wallet’s contributors are not liable for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or otherwise — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the wallet. If you are not willing to accept that risk, do not install the wallet.

Digital assets carry their own risks. DigiByte (DGB) is a volatile digital asset. Its value can fall sharply, and it can lose value permanently. Never hold more in this or any wallet than you can afford to lose entirely. DigiDollar is a protocol-native, over-collateralized stable token whose peg is maintained by protocol mechanics — not by a company, a reserve account, or a redemption guarantee from anyone. It is a young mechanism, and its stability is not guaranteed under all market conditions. The wallet supports sending, receiving and holding DigiDollar; it does not mint or redeem it. DigiAssets — tokens and NFTs — are issued by third parties whom neither DigiScope nor the wallet vets, endorses, or verifies. Anyone can create an asset with any name or image, including one that imitates another. Assess an asset’s provenance yourself before treating it as valuable.

Not financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Nothing in the wallet, on this site, or in any related material is financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice, and none of it is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any asset. Educational content and analytics describe how things work; they do not tell you what to do with your money. Consult a qualified professional in your own jurisdiction before making financial decisions.

No custodial or fiduciary relationship. Using the wallet does not create an account with DigiScope, a custodial relationship, a deposit, or any fiduciary duty. DigiScope operates infrastructure and publishes software; it does not hold, transmit, or exchange your funds, and it cannot freeze, seize, or restore them. DigiScope’s separate tip-wallet feature on this website is a distinct, custodial balance held for site rewards, and is not part of the mobile wallet described here.

Network and third-party dependencies. The wallet communicates with the public DigiByte peer-to-peer network and, depending on the features you use, with services such as IPFS gateways for asset media. These are operated by independent parties. Their availability, correctness, and privacy practices are outside anyone’s control, including ours. Network conditions — congestion, reorganizations, consensus upgrades, or a partitioned peer — can delay a transaction, delay a balance from appearing, or cause the wallet to display information that is temporarily incomplete.

Verify what you install. Install the wallet only from the sources listed on this site: the signed APK published here, the signed releases on the project’s GitHub, or an official app-store listing operated by us. Every release is built by CI and published with its SHA-256 checksum so you can confirm the file you received is the file we published. Wallet software is a standard target for imitation. An app that looks like this one, obtained anywhere else, should be assumed hostile until verified — a counterfeit wallet’s only purpose is to capture your recovery phrase.

Your jurisdiction is your responsibility. The wallet is published for general availability. That is not a representation that using it, or holding or transacting in digital assets, is lawful where you live. You are responsible for complying with the laws, tax obligations, and sanctions regimes that apply to you.

Changes to this notice. This notice may be updated as the wallet develops. The effective date above marks the current version, and continued use of the wallet after a change constitutes acceptance of it. Questions, or something here that reads wrong to you? Use the support page or the wallet feedback form — both are linked below.

Frequently asked questions

Is the DigiByte wallet covered by a warranty?
No. It is free and open-source software released under the MIT license and provided "as is", without warranty of any kind.
Can DigiScope recover my funds or my recovery phrase?
No. The wallet is fully non-custodial — keys are generated on your device and never reach DigiScope. A lost recovery phrase means permanently lost funds, and blockchain transactions cannot be reversed by anyone.
Who is responsible if I lose money using the wallet?
You are. By installing or using the wallet you assume all risk, including total and permanent loss of funds, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
Is DigiDollar in the wallet guaranteed to hold its peg?
No. DigiDollar is a protocol-native, over-collateralized stable token whose peg is maintained by protocol mechanics, not by a company or a redemption guarantee. Its stability is not guaranteed under all market conditions.
Is any of this financial advice?
No. Nothing in the wallet or on DigiScope is financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice, and none of it is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any asset.
